What causes honeycombing in concrete?

During construction, it is easy to encounter deformed concrete, and honeycomb is a very common phenomenon. So what are the reasons for honeycomb in concrete?

The more common reasons are inaccurate measurement of concrete mix ratio, poor sand and gravel grading; uneven concrete mixing; leakage of concrete formwork; insufficient or missed vibration of concrete; too thick concrete poured at one time, unclear stratification, unclear concrete handover, and uncontrollable vibration quality; concrete free fall height exceeds the specified height, concrete segregation, and stone pile; concrete vibrator is damaged, or temporary power outage causes missed vibration; insufficient vibration time, bubbles are not removed, etc. In view of this phenomenon, it is recommended to deal with it from the following aspects:

1. For smaller honeycombs, wash them clean and smooth them with 1:2 cement mortar;

2. For larger honeycombs, chisel away weak and loose particles, wash them and support the mold, and carefully fill and compact them with fine stone concrete of a higher strength grade;

3. For deeper honeycombs, bury grouting pipes and exhaust pipes inside them, apply mortar on the surface or pour concrete to seal them, and then carry out cement grouting treatment.

Honeycombs often appear in concrete. Once this phenomenon occurs, the construction party is not helpless and can deal with it from the above aspects.
